CAAZ upgrades air navigation and communication systems

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe has upgraded the country’s air navigation and communication systems to meet international standards and ensure air safety.

Government funded the upgrade of the CAAZ air systems in its broad-based policy of developing key infrastructure that is critical for the economy.

According to CAAZ Director-General Dr Elijah Chingosho, the upgrade of their air systems is part of the remodelling of the Robert Mugabe International Airport.

“As CAAZ we are delighted that we have moved according to our schedule in putting the right aviation infrastructure and this has also extended to deal with human capital development as well hence we have since opened our aviation training academy and above all, I want to thank the support that we continue to get from our government,” he said.

Technicians at the CAAZ training academy, who maintained that safety should never be compromised, highlighted the significance of the continuous improvement of aviation personnel and equipment.

“We now have in-house training of our aviation engineers to keep them abreast with international developments and requirements of the aviation industry and are very committed to maintaining our good safety records,” said the head of training Aviation Training Academy of Zimbabwe Tarisai Jayirayi.

“This is a highly sophisticated navigation system that we are now using and it gives us the confidence to announce that our air space is well monitored and conforms to set rules and regulations under IATA,” said Vimbai Sophia Nduku, Senior Air Navigation Technician.
