Zimbabwean light weight boxer, Brighton Masiyambumbi was fatally stabbed by his South African wife around 2am in Jo’burg, South Africa yesterday.

Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, the brother to the now deceased, Steven Masiyambumbi said confirmed the incident and said more details of what transpired will be shared in due course as the South African Police are conducting investigations.

He said it is a painful death.

Narrating what happened, he said: “I learnt that he was stabbed by his wife around 2am and he stormed out of the house towards the gate bleeding and calling for help. Some metres from the house, Brighton collapsed and died instantly.

“Trying to cover up, his wife changed the clothes he was wearing and went on to clean blood in the house. It is said that, neighbours rushed to the scene to find out why Brighton was calling for help. Upon discovering that he was sleeping in a pool of blood they decided to call the police who then came to make investigations on what transpired.

“They questioned the wife who refused that she was responsible for Brighton’s death. They traced the dots of blood which led them to the bedroom where they found Brighton’s clothes with blood. That is when she admitted that she was responsible for my brother’s death.”

He said the body was taken to a nearby hospital and is now waiting for post-mortem and investigations are still underway.

Steven described his brother as someone who was non-violent and a cheerful person. He is hoping that Brighton will get justice. Steven said the funeral arrangements will be announced after the Easter Holiday but, mourners are gathered in Bulawayo. He has left a daughter.

Brighton was ranked sixth in Africa in his division. He won a bronze medal at the zone Six Championships in 2009 and has been dominant force at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games.
