The Easter holiday road traffic accident death toll rose to 18 after two more people died in another crash at the 213km peg along Harare-Masvingo Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police said the road traffic accidents were mainly caused by negligent driving and human error.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident where two people died while two others were injured when a Honda Fit vehicle with four occupants on board veered off the road and landed beneath the bridge at the 213km peg along Harare-Masvingo Road.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to Mvuma Hospital for post-mortem whilst the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
“On April 8, a 22-year-old man died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motorist along Seke Road near St Davies Road, Hatfield.
“The motorist did not stop after the accident.
“In another serious hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred along New Boka Detour Road near Boka curve, on April 8 at around 2050 hours, an unknown motorist, driving a yellow Toyota Hiace kombi written Boss Para, hit a yet-to-be-identified man.
“The victim sustained serious head injuries and is admitted at Sally Mugabe Hospital. The motorist briefly stopped after the accident and later drove off. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” police said.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident in Zvishavane which occurred on April 9 where a 34-year-old man died on the spot after being hit by a Mark X20G whilst standing beside the road at the 106km peg along Gweru-Zvishavane Road.
The victim sustained head injuries and fractured legs and arms.
