4-H Zimbabwe gets regional award

4-H Zimbabwe has been awarded a Regional Peace Award by the African Union for the role the organisation is playing in advancing youth, peace and security agenda in Africa at an event held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event brings together various high-level people from around the world to honour key champions for peace through sport.

4-H Zimbabwe Director John Muchenje said the award is dedicated to key stakeholders and funding partners.

“The main thrust is to unite diverse communities, creating mutual respect, trust, tolerance, discipline and common understanding,” Muchenje said.

The organisation was honoured for empowering and capacitating the youth to be responsible and contributing leaders that effect positive change in the world.

4-H Zimbabwe is a youth-led organisation which aims to foster engagement and unite traditionally divergent community groups through organising sport tournaments involving different communities, political parties and student unions.

The foundation established eight nutrition gardens that benefitted 400 women in Hurungwe and facilitated the drilling of eight solar-powered boreholes, providing adequate clean water for the same community.

The organisation was last year was judged the best Non-Governmental Organisation at the Prestigious International Sport and Peace Forum.

They were also selected to receive an award by the African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security Awards Initiative for Civil Society Organisations working on youth, peace and security in Africa.
