A young man who impregnated a girl, has been taken to court by the girl for failing to look after his child.

Nyasha Zimeti appeared before magistrate Sharon Mashavire at the Harare Civil Court, accusing Simbarashe Musoso of being an unresponsive father who could not take care of his minor child.

She claimed that she wanted US$105 for the child’s basic needs.

The 26-year-old Musoso said he was not in a position to pay that money as he was not employed.

“I cannot afford the claim she is making, l am not employed. I depend on my parents for survival.

He told the court he would take up temporary jobs occasionally whenever he is hired, but it was only for one or two months.

Magistrate Mashavire advised Musoso to man up and work since he now had a responsibility to look after.

“You need to move from your comfort zone for you to look after your child.

“The court needs to compel you to paying to the upkeep of your child,” she said.

Musoso then offered to pay US$30 per month.

Zimeti rejected the offer saying it was not enough.

“I sell hair food and perfumes and l realise US$160 per month. The money he is offering is not enough,” she said.

Mashavire ordered Musoso to deposit US$30 for the upkeep of his minor child every month, starting from April 31.
