Budding scientist and Lower Sixth student at Queen Elizabeth High School, Ruvarashe Moyo, is appealing for financial assistance to participate at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas, Texas, which is taking place from May 14-19 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centre.

Moyo was selected to represent Zimbabwe at Regeneron ISEF after she did her research project of turning bricks into supercapacitors with the aim of solving the electrical energy crisis.

The young scientist said her project has potential as a means to store energy efficiently.

“I am a young researcher who is passionate about bringing sustainable development in my community through research. Currently l am doing my A level focusing on Maths, Physics and Chemistry at USAP Community School.

“My project is looking at using a PANI brick supercapacitor to address Zimbabwe's power crisis and I'm excited to share that my results show a promising way to store energy efficiently.

“To attend ISEF, there are certain costs, unfortunately my parents are unable to pay all that money. To fundraise I have decided to start a go funding campaign.

“Please support me by donating and also share with people who might potentially assist me so that I will be able to participate,” Ruvarashe said.

Moyo is a young inventor, scientist and student passionate about bringing sustainable development in marginalised societies.

She became one of the first Africans to intern at the University of California Santa Cruz in the Science Internship Program.

Due to her zeal for popularising astronomy in Zimbabwe and beyond, soon after the Internship she co-founded a non-profit organisation, Junior Space Explorers, that seeks to improve lives, inspire and fulfil curiosity in children of all ages through space exploration and Astronomy.

She has worked on several research projects in the field of energy and water purification in order to solve problems affecting people in her community.
