Four people, who allegedly assaulted a man to death over the theft of maize cobs from one of the accused’s field, has been taken to court.

Gift Kamupira, 49, Sirivako Kagwa, 69, Stephen Phiri, 65, Barabara Kumadzi, 40, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with murder.

They will appear in court on April 25 pending bail application at the High Court.

The State alleges that on April 5, at Rugare Open Space, the accused teamed up and assaulted the now-deceased with open fists, switches and open hands several times, accusing him of stealing maize cobs from Kamupira’s field.

This allegedly led to the death of the deceased.
