The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is embarking on a national exercise to review the 2023 Continuous Assessment Learning Activities programme.

The consultations will be held from May 23-24 from 0830 hours to 17000 hours.

In a statement the Ministry’s Permanent secretary, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, said every school will be a consultation centre for CALA review.

“This is an opportunity for the internal stakeholders to participate in deciding the education we want as a nation. Their views are important to shape our education for Socio-Economic development.

“Please spread the word for them not to miss this opportunity to improve the Competence-Based Curriculum in the Ministry’s quest of providing equitable and inclusive 21st century quality education, leaving no one and no place behind,” reads the statement.

The CALA curriculum has been criticised by students, parents and teachers for being a challenge because it is financially straining and no training was done prior to its introduction.

Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Edgar Moyo had announced that the ministry was holding training for people to conduct the reviews.

“I think, next week that is when we are going to have the national review session which is going to run nationally in all settings.

“It is there that we expect to receive recommendations from different stakeholders on how to view the entire curriculum including this formative examination situation which we call Continuous Assessment Learning Areas,” Moyo said.
