Accident in close proximity to site of another recent one kills 3

Three people, including a 19 year-old woman and her two-year old daughter, died in an accident after a pirate taxi veered off the road along Rusape-Wedza Highway on Sunday evening. The accident has been attributed to speeding.

The deceased woman’s husband is battling for his life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital. The other passenger died upon admission at Rusape General Hospital.

The accident occurred barely a week after a Honda Fit vehicle was involved in an accident a few kilometres from Sunday’s accident scene. The other accident killed two people.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, confirmed the accident, and called upon drivers to be always alert when driving, especially at night.

“On June 4, Nomore Antonio, 22, of Tsanzaguru suburb was driving a Toyota Wish vehicle along Rusape-Wedza Highway with seven passengers on board. On approaching the 9km peg, he failed to control the vehicle and it veered off to the left side of the road. It moved for about 100m before overturning twice and landed on its wheels.

“One passenger, Maybe Tengenenge, 19, died on the spot, while two-year-old Anashe Makwinje died on the way to Rusape General Hospital. Knollety Muziti, 28, died upon admission at Rusape General Hospital on the same day. One seriously injured passenger was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, while another one is admitted at Rusape General Hospital. Two others were treated and discharged,” said Inspector Muzondo.

He added: “Drivers must always be cautious on the road, especially when driving at night. All road rules must be strictly adhered to avoid the unnecessary loss of precious lives,” said Inspector Muzondo.
