Five people who were caught stealing 30 by 10-kilogramme bags of gold ore at Nyamande Mine have appeared in court.

Rungano Musliwa, 46, Nomatter Mushore, 50, Kurauone Chisango, 41, Derick Mabande, 47, Sweetwell Nemukuyu, 34, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of contravening the Mines and Minerals Act, Theft of Gold Ore.

The State, through Zororai Nkomo, alleges that on April 11 at around 2300 hours, the five went to steal from Nyamande Mining Syndicate Shaft, entering through the shaft entrance at Munyukwa Chibanda Syndicate, where Mushore and Nemukuyu work.

The two mines share the same boundary where there is an underground tunnel which passes through them.

The five accused were aware that Nyamande Mining Syndicate security guards were patrolling at their mine surface premises as such, they entered into the underground shaft and trespassed into Nyamande Mine where they stole 30 by 10-kilogramme empty bags and went on to load them with gold ore.

The five were seen by the security guards who reported to the police. Police officers were deployed at Nyamande Mine, leading to the five’s arrest and recovery of 30 by 10-kilogramme bags loaded with stolen gold ore.

The five were ordered to appear in court on June, 7, 2023.
