Zimbabwe Kobudo Team under Zimbabwe Karate Union landed in South Africa yesterday for the 2nd Annual Africa Women’s Cup Championship 2023 scheduled for today.
Initially meant to be two-day tournament, which includes semi-contact Kumite, Karate Katas and The Kobudo/Weaponry categories, it was later changed into a one-day event. The Tournament.
The Zimbabwe team shall be participating in weapon categories and the martial arts weapons include Tonfa, Sai, Bo, Kama and Nunchaku.
Comprising mostly ladies, who include Tariroyashe Ndhlovu, Olga Zvavanjanja, Shamiso Makombe, Thandiwe Chirindo and Jeahan Zvavanjanja, the tournament also has a few male categories in which the Zimbabwe team will be represented by Vincent Fambira.
Multi Award Winning Shidoshi-ho, Wilfred Mashaya who is the pioneer of Kobudo martial arts in Zimbabwe and the current ZKU vice president is the coach of the team, who are mainly drawn from Zim Ninja Academy.
This tournament is a brainchild Kyoshi Cindi Mailula of South African, who are celebrating women in the month of August.
