Heroes Day is a national event which everybody should attend in honour of the departed sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who perished for the liberation of the country, Democratic Official Party president, Harry Peter Wilson has said.
This comes as Wilson, who is one of the 11 candidates eyeing the country’s top job in the August 23 election, attended the Heroes Day commemoration as well as double burial of national heroes Johannes Tomana and Brigadier-General (Retired) Milton Siziba along with other Zimbabwean political leaders.
The event, which was presided over by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was held under the theme under the theme “Remembering Our Heroes — Nyika Inovakwa Nevene vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo”.
“I am attending heroes, as I am part of the Zimbabwe liberation, we should always pay respect to our heroes, and always be part of our countries transformation in commemoration of those who fought for the our country, we should not play politics, but be part of this serious occasion.
“We must forget about politics and look at the plight of those who brought us independence. They liberated all Zimbabweans. I am proud of the other political leaders who joined this special occasion.
“As president of Zimbabwe, I will also continue this legacy, because we shouldn’t say it’s only one party, yet it’s Zimbabwean heroes. Souls of the soil, I still say God’s blessings to all. And praise Zimbabweans for their participation,” he told Zim Now in an interview.
While the main event was at the National Heroes Acre, the Heroes Day commemorations were also held in all the country’s provinces and districts.
