A man who assaulted another man using a broken bottle of beer has been given bail.
Brighton Ncube, 35, of Western Triangle, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing attempted murder charges.
He was ordered to deposit US$20 as bail and will appear in court November 11 for his routine remand.
The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that on April 30, at around 2200 hours, the complainant was attending a funeral in their neighbourhood with his friends drinking beer outside the gate.
The complainant in this matter is Givemore Tapiwa Zimbodza, 38, of Western Triangle in Highfield.
One of Zimbodza’s friends, Raymond Koshita went to buy beer next to a bar called Shirichena.
He saw the bar lady known as Susan crying, Koshita asked her why she was crying but she did not respond.
Koshita told his friends that Susan was crying and they all went there to investigate.
Susan did not divulge anything but just pointed at Ncube.
Zimbodza allegedly confronted Ncube and asked him what he had done to Susan.
Ncube started assaulting Zimbodza with fists. When he tried to defend himself, Ncube, who had a bottle of beer, broke it and stabbed Zimbodza several times on the back of his head and near the left eye.
Zimbodza was rushed to hospital unconscious.
He later gained consciousness while being attended to at the hospital.
Zimbodza lost his phone a Samsung A21 and US$22 cash during the scuffle.
