A man has been taken to court after a complainant exchanged his Mercedes Benz vehicle for a non-existent stand.

Job Kampira, 30, residing in Eastview Phase 9, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with fraud.

The complainant in this matter is Shepherd Wilfred Zinhua, 60, of Eastview Phase 4 in Harare.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that in April 2021, Zinhua was looking for a residential stand in Eastview.

In the same month, he met Zinhua at Eastview Gazebo Shopping Centre, Harare.

Kampira told Zinhua that he was selling a residential stand measuring 450 square metres in Eastview Phase 9 in Harare.

Zinhua and Kampira then proceeded to the area to see the stand.

Zinhua became interested, negotiated the price and parties settled for US$4 500.

On the same day, Zinhua negotiated with Kampira to pay him using his car, a white Mercedes Benz C200 and they agreed.

An agreement of sale was signed between the two.

Zinhua then went and cleared his stand as he wanted to build a cottage and was approached by a certain man only known as Kelvin, who claimed to be the rightful owner of the stand.

Zinhua engaged Kampira and he promised to resolve the matter.

That was the time Kampira allegedly became evasive, causing Zinhua to report the matter to the police.

The value of property he was defrauded was US$4 500 and nothing was recovered.

Kampira was ordered to deposit US$50 as bail. He will appear in court on October 19 pending investigations and a possible trial date.
