The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade says people in the diaspora are keen to invest in the country and need enablement through specialised services.

“In our engagements, they have identified areas they want to invest in such as tourism, mining and higher and tertiary education as well as land,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade director for diaspora bilateral trade Siyenzeni Matera.

She was speaking during the Sanganai/Hlanganani tourism expo held in Bulawayo recently.

“ZIDA on the other hand says they are Zimbabweans and should be treated in the same manner as those at home as there is no policy for that, but they are willing to engage on that," says Matera.

She says her unit continues to talk to ZIDA on how the diaspora population can be accommodated.

“As directorate of diaspora engagement, we will continue engaging ZIDA to find a common ground,” she said.

Economic analysts have urged government to craft policies that attract Zimbabweans in the diaspora to network their financial resources outside domestic consumption
