Plans to build a 22-megawatt waste-to-energy plant at the Pomona dumpsite in Harare, Zimbabwe, are progressing on schedule, with the design phase currently underway in Europe.
Geo-Pomona Waste Management executive chairman and chief executive officer, Delish Nguwaya, said the plant is expected to begin commercial operation in 2025.
“We are within our timelines and we are confident that we will be functional by 2025. Currently, the designs are in Europe and that is a very huge stage in terms of moving ahead with the project,” he said.
The plant will use municipal solid waste as a feedstock to generate electricity, helping to address the city’s solid waste management issues.
