Damview Grounds in Chitungwiza will tomorrow host a social soccer match between Damview Stars and Panjap Motors Football Club that is set to bring together adult football lovers.
Sports coordinator at Damview, Kumbulani Kelvin Nduku said they want Damview to grow into the venue of choice for all sporting disciplines, adding that tomorrow will also mark the launch of Damview soccer team as well as the official opening of the soccer venue.
“We want to promote social soccer in the community through the creation of private venues suitable for the social scenes associated with boozers’ clubs. At the same time, we also want the teams to create formal leagues in which they play so that they become a coordinated lot.
“We are actually trying to make Damview Grounds a centre for all sporting disciplines because there is no way we can continue to have schools hosting boozers’ games since the teams may want to drink.
“Already, we have netball, soccer, pool and a burnout track among other facilities at Damview,” Nduku said.
In tomorrow’s match, yesteryear legends make up the bulk of the two team she teams and they will be battling for honours in a match that is set to be a display of skill and sportsmanship from the two sides.
The match is a dress rehearsal of a tournament next Saturday pitting four teams scheduled for Damview - located to the left along Seke Road adjacent Guzha Shopping Centre, popularly known as Chikwanha, in Chitungwiza.
The teams that will play on November 4 are HE Swallows, Glen Norah Ambassadors, Mada Glass FC, Barca Kadoma, Marondera Leopards and Tipma FC.
