Imbibers in court for assaulting, robbing fellow drinker

A man, who was part of a team that attacked and robbed a fellow imbiber, has appeared in court.

John Chimbende, 28, of Domboshava, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of robbery.

The State alleges that on November 10, Chimbende was drinking beer at Library Night, Zimbiru Business Centre in Domboshava, together with his two accomplices, who are still at large.

At around 0400 hours, the complainant, Edwin Chitsungo, went outside to relieve himself.

It is alleged that Chimbende and his accomplices followed and manhandled him.

Chimbende bit Chitsungo’s finger while the another accomplice hit him with a beer bottle.

Chitsungo allegedly fell on the ground, Chimbende then assaulted Chitsungo all over his body resulting in Chitsungo sustaining many injuries all over.

After that, Chimbende and his a accomplices searched Chitsungo, stole a wallet which had US$130, bank cards, a Samsung A23 phone, Itel A35, a Satchel with two Chino trousers, one pair of safety shoes, rafters and went away.

Chitsungo managed to rise, went to ZRP Chinamhora Base and when he was passing by Early Bird Club, he saw Chimbende at the veranda.

When he got to the police station, he reported the matter leading to Chimbende’s arrest.

The value of property that was stolen was worth US$288 and US$130 cash.

Chimbende will appear in court November 15 for bail application.
