Former Chegutu West Member of Parliament, who was barred from contesting, Dexter Nduna, has thrown his weight behind the new entrant Shakemore Timburwa, who will be representing Zanu PF for the February 3, 2024 by-election.
This comes as Timburwa won the recently held Zanu PF primary election for that constituency that were held last week, edging Advocate Chigavazira in the contest.
Nduna was disqualified by the party during the candidate selection process. Timburwa's victory put to rest the plans by Nduna to appeal against his disqualification.
In a statement posted on X, Nduna refers to Timburwa as his brother, reiterating that he is handing over the constituency to his brother as they share the same vision, which is in line with that of the President.
“We both share the same vision 2030 with His Excellency the President Dr. ED Mnangagwa. Please vote for him come 3rd February 2024. Thank U,” Nduna posted.
Timburwa, a prominent businessman and politician will contest in the parliamentary by-elections representing Zanu-PF in Chegutu West constituency.
Timburwa welcomed Nduna's message saying: "Embracing the spirit of camaraderie, we are united to overcome challenges and stand stronger as a united family. Wishing you all a joyous morning and as Zanu PF we are looking forward to a harmonious journey towards victory. Together, we are destined for success."
Timburwa won against Brian Chinyama and Timothy Masviba during week’s primaries while Last Farai Chigavazira pulled out of the race under unclear circumstances.
The Chegutu West Constituency seat fell vacant after the recall of Admore Chivero by the disputed Citizens’ Coalition for Change secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu.
