Police have raised concern over the increase of robberies targeting learning institutions that have been witnessed in the past weeks.
This comes as an armed robbery case was recorded in Bulawayo on January 6 at George Silundika High School where the criminals stole US$17 280 that was in a cash box while another one took place in Chinhoyi on January 9. 12 unknown suspects attacked security guards before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash, a Mazda Tribute vehicle, cellphones and laptops.
Also, in Masvingo, the suspect last week attacked a college owner at his house in Mucheke D before stealing US$22 800 and other valuables.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed disgruntlement over the spike in robberies and urged school authorities to use financial institutions.
“School authorities are urged to step up security at their schools,” Ass. Comm. Nyathi said.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned that some robbery cases are resulting from leakage of information,” Nyathi added in the statement.
