Speaking during a tour of the organisation’s premises in Harare’s Graniteside industrial area, SAZ director for certification services, Ranganai Mutonono said that they were glad that Kumbucha Fresh had opened up and invited the certifier.
“We have been seeing and hearing a lot about this company from third parties, but we are glad that coming here has given us a clearer picture on the company’s production and I can say that what we have seen is good.
“We are happy that the company is contributing to the economy through employment creation as well as helping farmers who supply the raw materials and we are happy that the company has shown interest in embracing standards so that the products meet the required standards.
“As the Standards Association of Zimbabwe, we promise to work together with the company in the certification process so that we come up with standard products,” he said.
The company’s chief executive Eric Niyonsaba, who is originally from Uganda, thanked the government for having policies that are favourable for small businesses.
“I am very grateful, especially to President Mnangagwa for creating an enabling business environment, I am a foreigner, but I love Zimbabwe because I can do my business freely.
“Out there, people say a lot of bad things about Zimbabwe and I was even discouraged to come and do business here. But ever since I came, I have seen my business grow which has even surprised my people back in Uganda and I am really thankful to President Mnangagwa’s government,” said Niyansoba.
The visit by the SAZ comes at a time a lot has been said, especially on social media, on the Fresh Kambucha product range.
However, the company’s managing director, Willard Chinguwa, said the company is committed to upholding good standards that guarantees the safety of consumers.
“We are committed to upholding good standards that guarantee consumers of the safeness of our products.
“In so doing, Kumbucha Fresh Zimbabwe is going a step further by involving the SAZ to further reinforce what we have always been telling the public that Fresh Kambucha is safe for human consumption,” he said.
