Cop in trouble for carrying unlicensed firearm

A Chikurubi-based member of the police’s Criminal Investigations Department, Zvikomborero Muwomba, was arrested for allegedly carrying an unlicensed pistol to the Mazowe’s Jumbo Mine.

Muwomba, 44, appeared before the Concession Magistrates’ Courts yesterday where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The state, through prosecutor Munyaradzi Nengomasha, alleged on October 18 last year, Muwomba was given a pistol containing three rounds for the purposes of cleaning the firearm by Hardlife Mushore, who is a holder of a valid certificate of the firearm.

Officers who were conducting Operation Chikorokoza Ngachipere – aimed at wiping out unlicensed miners – arrested Muwomba on October 21 at the mine following a search.

Muwomba, it was proven, was not on duty on the day in question.
