Obey Sithole, who was MDC Alliance youth chairperson at the 2019 Gweru congress, has wholeheartedly welcomed the Citizens Coalition for Change’s decision to reinstate the party structure established in 2019.
Following Nelson Chamisa’s resignation as CCC leader, the Standing Committee opted to return to the Gweru framework, a move Sithole hails as a crucial step towards “saving democracy which was on the verge of collapse due to our adoption of experimental processes”.
Sithole expressed his “appreciation” for the Standing Committee’s decision in an interview with Zim Now, emphasizing its potential to revitalize Zimbabwe’s political landscape.
“This decision is a great opportunity to take back the party back to its owners, that is the people,” he declared, reiterating the importance of grassroots engagement and democratic principles within the party structure. Sithole believes the move away from “alien practices” and towards a 2019-based foundation strengthens the party’s connection with its base.
He further highlighted the necessity for decisive action in addressing Zimbabwe's current challenges. “The decision by the standing committee is welcome and this comes at the right time when Zimbabwe needs decisive measures to tackle a plethora of hardships that our people are facing,” Sithole stated. He envisions nationwide meetings to engage with the youth and chart a unified path forward, reaffirming the people's role in determining the party's course.
In conclusion, Sithole’s enthusiastic endorsement of the CCC's return to the 2019 structure underscores his belief in its potential to revive Zimbabwe’s democratic aspirations. With renewed emphasis on grassroots involvement and a move away from “experimental processes,” the MDC Alliance aims to reclaim its connection with the people and navigate the country through its current difficulties.
