The Southern African Development Committee secretariat has a planned visit to Zimbabwe to check on the country’s preparedness for the block’s August Summit in Harare this year.
The bloc’s executive secretariat, led by Dr Judith Kateera, will provide and assist Zimbabwe with hosting guidelines and provisions of expected standards for the hosting of the Summit on its four-day visit.
In a statement, spokesperson in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Michael Mukura, said that the team will engage Zimbabwean authorities on their preparedness for the 44th Summit.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade hereby advises that the Sadc Preparatory Mission, led by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Corporate Affairs Dr Judith Kateera will be visiting Zimbabwe from 20 to 24 February,” Mukura said.
Zimbabwe has since started preparations for the Summit with the construction of Mt Hampden access roads already underway as the new Parliament will hold proceedings.
“The team will provide Zimbabwe with guidelines based on Sadc minimum standards regarding the obligations when hosting the Summit. Zimbabwe will be provided with the opportunity to present reports on the state of preparedness towards hosting the Summit in Harare,” Mukura added.
