Zim Now Writer
Just three months on the job, Zimbabwe Now has already made its mark with writer Phil Jambaya being selected runner-up in the Maternal Health award category.
Jambaya said he felt honoured to be picked among writers from established media houses:
“I am immensely humbled to be receiving this special award. This award sincerely acknowledges my effort, and it is a huge admiration. – I am exceedingly overjoyed to receive this great honour.
“I want to give my sincere thanks to the Almighty Lord, my mother, Mai Rilley and Sisi Rilley, my Editor at Zim Now, Monica Cheru and my friends at Katswe Sistahood and everyone who supported me and encouraged me to get this far.”
Other winners at the awards were from long established media house including Zimpapers, AMH with New Zimbabwe the only other digital publisher to make their presence felt.
Jambaya, joined Zim Now at inception and has proven he has an eye for news with his incisive stories which include the award-winning one.
Zimbabwe Now is a registered digital publishing media house established in July this year and already has an online readership in over 100 countries.
Its editorial thrust is to cover people stories with a solutions-oriented focus.
In a speech read on his behalf at the awards ceremony, United Nations Resident Coordinator Edward Kallon acknowledged the critical role the media plays in the development of communities and countries at large.
Calling on the media to remain professional and responsible in imparting information, Kallon said: “We support sustainable development through this cooperation. The media plays a critical role in making sure that this is achieved.
