A Judicial Service Commission e-filing officer of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System, at the Labour Court has been taken to court for bribery.
Takudzwa Marlon Muza, 29, Zengeza 4, Chitungwiza and Allen Nhamo Bhaswi, 35, of Tynwald South, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with bribery.
The two were remanded in custody.
The State, through prosecutor Zvikomborero Mupasa, alleges that in September 2023, Bhaswi received a judgment in his favour at Murehwa Magistrates’ Civil Court.
The other party then appealed against the judgment at the High Court of Zimbabwe, Harare.
It is alleged that on February 27, Bhaswi went to file his response at the High Court.
He was attended to by Muza who promised to assist him to get a favourable outcome as he was close to the judge who was going to deal with the matter.
On February 27, Muza allegedly contacted Bhaswi and told him to pay US$700 which he said was going to be shared by court officials who were going to deal with his case, including the judge.
On February 29, Bhaswi gave US$350 to Muza as part of the US$700.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission was informed about the accused’s deeds and arrested them on the same date.
The US$350 was recovered from Muza.
It is alleged that when he was searched, he had a Criminal Investigations Department identity card bearing his name but with a fake national identity number.
