Bikita Minerals can celebrate promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after a dramatic turn of events. The Eastern Region outfit were awarded a 3-0 victory in their final match of the season against Grayham FC, following the discovery that Grayham fielded an ineligible player.
The Eastern Region Soccer League confirmed that Grayham used Calvin Tinashe Chiwere, who was registered under another player's license, Munyaradzi Machipisa. This breach resulted in a three-point deduction for Grayham and a six-month suspension for Chiwere. Additionally, Bikita Minerals received a $2 000 fine for an unrelated incident of assaulting referees.
With the awarded points and goals, Bikita Minerals surpass Tenax FC in the final standings, finishing top of the Eastern Region with 60 points compared to Tenax’s 59. This dramatic shift propels Bikita Minerals into the top tier of Zimbabwean football, joining the ranks of the PSL for the 2024 season.
