Guard in soup for stealing TelOne copper cables, accomplices on the run

A man, who a guard stationed at TelOne Msasa, has been arraigned before the court, accused of stealing the company’s copper cables.

Charles Shaya, 52, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft of TelOne opportunities cables.

He will appear in court on March, 26, for bail application.

The State, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira alleges that on March 22, at around 1300 hours, Shaya and his accomplices, Hardlife Maburutse, Alex Kubvoruno and three others, who are still at large, stole TelOne copper cables from TelOne.

On the same date at around 1700 hours, one of the the accomplice, who is still at large hired the services of informant, Padington Shungu, a taxi driver on the pretext that he wanted to pick up his sister from Msasa to Mabvuku.

It is alleged that when they arrived at Tenda traffic control lights, Msasa, a silver Honda Fit with an unknown registration number, which had two other accomplices, joined and followed Shungu’s car.

One accused who is still at large forced Shungu to drive his car to TelOne Masasa, where Shaya was on night duty guarding the premises with Maburutse and Kubvoruno, who are still at large.

When they arrived at the gate, it is alleged that Maburutse, Kubvoruno and other three accused who are still at large stole and loaded TelOne copper cables in the two cars.

The State alleges that Maburutse opened the gate for the two cars.

Shungu was forced to drive to Chishawasha Mountains where the cables were offloaded and he was chased away from the scene.

He allegedly went and reported at ZRP Mabvuku.

As a result, US$3 600 worth of cables were stolen.
