A Chinese national has been arraigned before the court accused of defrauding US$200 000.
LI Bowen, a.k.a., Robert, 33, of 6 Chikurubi Prison Farm, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrate’ Courts charged with fraud.
He was ordered to deposit US$500 as bail and will appear in court on April 30.
The State, through prosecutor Loveti Muringwa, alleges that on March 18, Bowen lied to the complainant and Edson Makuvise that he could give cash if the complainant transfers US$200 000 into his HI-BEL CHENGXIN CO LIT Bank of China account for his chemicals.
The State alleges that the complainant then transferred the US$200 000 into the given account number and forwarded the proof of payment to Robert.
The complainant and Makuvise made efforts to get the money from Robert, it is alleged that, but Robert started to be evasive until the complainant reported the case.
As a result, the complainant suffered an actual prejudice of US$200 000.
