Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited painted Easter weekend a heart-warming hue with their generous donations to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home and Bumhudzo Old People’s Home. The company’s bounty, delivered by their Corporate Affairs Executive, Ropafadzo Gwanetsa, and her team, brought smiles and a touch of luxury to the lives of these residents.
Imagine the delight on the faces of the children at Chinyaradzo as they received not only delicious Mazoe cordials and Minute Maid drinks but also sanitary pads, a thoughtful gesture that ensures their well-being. These 15 girls and 18 boys, all 17 years old and younger, undoubtedly felt a surge of warmth and appreciation from Schweppes' act of kindness.
Over at Bumhudzo Old People’s Home, a haven for elderly citizens, some as old as 106 – a testament to life’s rich tapestry – Schweppes’ gifts were met with immense gratitude. Gogo Samombe, a resident, expressed her heartfelt thanks and presented a wish, like a sweet melody on the Easter breeze. Their beloved bus, once a chariot for adventures around Chitungwiza and Harare, now stood silent due to a breakdown. Gogo Samombe’s plea for assistance in getting it back on the road resonated deeply, a yearning for continued exploration and connection.
This selfless act by Schweppes wasn’t merely about quenching thirst; it was about quenching the thirst for connection, for joy, and for a helping hand. Bumhudzo Old People’s Home, run by the Salvation Army Church, relies on the fruits of their labour from farming and the generosity of donors. Major Chidakwa’s voice, gentle yet firm, echoed a plea for the reopening of their closed hospital facility. The current reliance on general hospitals and the struggle to afford prescriptions cast a shadow over their golden years.
Schweppes Zimbabwe’s Easter outreach programme was a radiant ray of sunshine, a reminder that even the smallest gestures can blossom into a garden of hope and care. Their gifts, like beautiful Easter lilies, brought not just momentary pleasure but a promise – a promise that they are not alone, that the community cares, and that the spirit of Easter, a spirit of renewal and love, lives on.
