Damview Hotel in Chitungwiza is set to reverberate as 10 rugby teams converge tomorrow morning for the Southern City Invitational Tournament.
The sporting extravaganza, yet another big tournament that proves Damview has become a venue of choice for different sporting disciplines, is set to begin at 10am.
The 10 teams that include both male and female teams are Harare Sports Club, Mutare Sports Club, Old Hararians, Pitbulls and Zimbiru.
Zimbiru Women, Police Women, Police Defenders, Marondera Talons and hosts Southern City Rugby Club complete the list of participating teams.
In an interview with Zim Now, Chitungwiza side, Southern City Rugby Club chairman, Carlton Majuru said his club is the brains behind the tournament.
“It’s an introductory tournament, bringing rugby to Chitungwiza and also pronouncing the Southern City Rugby Arena.
“Our major aim is taking boys and girls out and off drug and substance abuse,” said Majuru, adding that they have had sponsors coming in, in kind, namely NetOne Cellular, Diamond Pharmacy and Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance Company.
The Damview Grounds is fast becoming a centre for all sporting disciplines having played host to several soccer, netball, burnout and pool tournaments, outlining its potential to host bigger events and activities, even concurrently.
