During his recent family show at Jongwe Corner in Hatfield, Harare, Sungura super star Alick Macheso called speedy CAPS United FC midfield winger, Phineas Bamusi to the stage for a celeb guidance and counselling hack.
“We are watching you Bamusi, you must now put your heart on your ball because it is the only blessing that God gave you to care for everyone around you and all those you shall meet in life. Only passion will take you to the top. Go Bamu go Bamu ayaa yaa Bamu,” said Macheso to a thunderous round of applause.
Macheso, who is passionate about the Zimbabwe senior men’s soccer team - the Warriors - said he once got hypertensive when the team got beaten.
Bamusi said he attends Alick Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo Band shows for inspiration.
“I am ever at Baba Sharo (Alick Macheso)’s shows because he and his Orchetra Mbrikwazvo Band inspire and exhaust my physical and mental pressures before playing my next games,” he said.
Bamusi’s soccer career started at Buffalos FC in 2012 before he joined Harare City FC in 2013 and played there until mid-2015. He then went green, joining CAPS United in 2015, Triangle FC in 2018 before retracing his steps back to the Green Machine in 2019.
“Thank you my parents. As a second born in my family of four, all my parents often remind me that I must always be a pacesetter. My mother, Selina Mapati, 53, and my father Amimo Bhamusi, 56, always remind me that I ought to exhaust my pressures before any game.
“They say each game’s best or worst play will stay in history even after my life, so they say I ought to play every game as a brick on our family history wall upon soccer.
“I obviously returned back home to CAPS because I have been a CAPS fan from boyhood, so when I got the dream opportunity to join, there was no two ways.
“I am in very good relations with my coach, team and mostly with its owner, Farai Jere,” he said.
Bamusi shared his diet.
“For breakfast, I take white bread and eggs or peanut butter or vegetable soup, at lunch I enjoy white rice and chicken stew then sadza and beef at supper.
“I take over three litres of water daily on top of pure juice after my daily fitness routine where I mostly enjoy anything to do with short sprints because I thrive on speed as a midfield winger,” he said.
Bamusi said in Zimbabwe, he is the best at what he does.
“No one challenges me locally among wingers and strikers. Yes, there are good ones but I only look up to those who play overseas, like Saka, Mbappe, Foden and our legends like Peter Ndovu and Benjani Mwaruwari because they gave it their all because it is not easy to play at that level.
“My message to all players or any company employees is that, as a team just continue working harder.
“To CAPS United FC players and fans, let us know that this team is big because former players made it so, so let us maintain its high level because big guys played for it. So, let us take this team where it belongs, which is at the top,” said Bamusi.
