Whilst many local authorities are battling with water provision despite being surrounded by big water bodies Mhondoro Ngezi local authority is effecting different water provision mechanisms to its communities.
The Mhondoro Ngezi Rural District Council recently commissioned the Circle G water supply project which draws water from Munyati to a higher point.
There are reservoirs along the 4 km from water source to end users.
Mhondoro Ngezi RDC CEO Dr Itai Mawonde said pump, tanks, tank stands and pipes were procured and installed by council and the community contributed trenching labour.
"We channelled USD 20 000 towards the water project and the project is servicing 2500 plus villagers from Circle G area" said Mawonde.
Council chairman Ephraim Chengeta said there are arrangements to develop the concept since the first phase was a success.
"We want to make sure that our residents have access to potable safe water so we are going to expand this project so that more people benefit," said Chengeta.
Circle G councillor Phillip Makotose welcomed the development which he said the community hailed council for the positive development.
"As Mhondoro Ngezi Ward 2 Councillor I am very happy for this community development water project council has brought to us. To the community I really comment your proactive stance on digging a trench almost three metres deep from Munyati River to a higher point and to your villages, now you are enjoying access to safe tap water," said Makotose.
Chairman Chengeta said besides Circle G water project, council has also installed boreholes across the district with plans for more boreholes to cater for the growing population and areas not close to drilled boreholes.
Water and sanitation are critical to achieving the SDGs and leaving no one behind is the central promise of the 2030 national agenda for sustainable development.
