Makuvise’s wife says ex-CBZ boss ‘feigned’ cancer and treatment abroad while living large with new wife

Former CBZ CEO Nyasha Makuvise stands accused of duping his wife into selling two properties under the belief that he had stage 4 cancer and was receiving treatment in Dubai, when he was in fact locally based and living with another woman.

This came out in submissions made by his wife Clarietta Makuvise in her application for divorce.

Clarietta has also instigated an adultery lawsuit against Nyasha’s alleged new partner Tsuu Machingura. Machingura was a friend to the couple’s daughter.

Clarietta is seeking US$40 000 for contumelia and US$60 000 being damages for loss of consortium, disruption of comfort society, loss of financial support and loss of society.

In her court submissions, Clarietta has asked the High Court to stop Nyasha selling any of their other properties.

In her application, Clarietta said she was married to Makuvise for more than 30 years and the couple acquired properties worth US$20 million placed in a joint estate.

Clarietta says Nyasha left her in 2019 under the pretext that he was ill with stage 4 cancer and needed to undergo expensive procedures abroad.

She says Nyasha made her sell two of their properties to fund his treatment and has shut her out of the jointly owned estate, making decisions and taking action without consulting her.

In addition to the financial prejudice of Nyasha siphoning off money from the sale of the jointly owned properties to fund his life with a new wife, Clarietta says she also suffered social and emotional trauma:

“This was embarrassing, particularly because at church I would request prayers for my husband, and yet some church members would meet him healthy and very active in social places in Zimbabwe which was inconsistent with a person suffering from stage four  cancer and purporting to be in Dubai,” said Clarietta.

Clarietta says following the tip offs, she investigate and discovered that Nyasha had married Machingura according to traditional customs and the couple was living a high life that included vacation trips abroad.

Nyasha denied ever lying to Clarietta saying her version of events was based on hearsay.

“I never engaged in asset stripping or misrepresentation as to the state of my health. All the properties sold were sold in consultation with the applicant (Clarietta), where necessary. I have never been married to anyone other than the applicant,” Nyasha said in his submission.
