A Harare man, who is accused of stealing more than US$108 000 from Zimbabwe's top eye surgeon, Dr Solomon Guramatunhu, has been arraigned before the courts.

Lloyd Chiyangwa, of Greencroft, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.

He was remanded in custody.

The complainant in this matter is Dr Guramatunhu, 70.

The State alleges that sometime in 2020, Guramatunhu bought crypto-currency while in India and formed a company in the United Kingdom.

It is alleged that when he returned to Zimbabwe, he engaged Chiyangwa, who is in the business of trading cryptocurrency to set up wallets and move some token coins.

It is alleged that Chiyangwa was asked to set up five accounts, Trust wallet, Exodus, Cosmostation, Wemix and Meatmask.

The court heard that Chiyangwa was tasked to set passwords for these wallets on behalf of Guramatunhu.

From January 7, to 27, Chiyangwa transferred 122 467 tokens worth US$108 924.24 from Guramatange’s Metamask Wallet, whose address he stole and subsequently transferred to Waybit exchange.

It is alleged that Guramatunhu discovered that the tokens were stolen from his wallet on January 27, when he intended to move them into another wallet.
