Payments for wheat farmers from the last cropping season have been significantly made, the Grain Marketing Board has announced.
In a statement, the GMB confirmed that payments totalling US$28.7 million have been made.
“To date, wheat payments amounting to US$28.7 million have been made, while the ZWL component was completed some time back. Today, the Grain Marketing Board made payments amounting to US$5 million,” the statement further says.
This follows payments of US$14.5 million processed in the last two weeks. GMB appreciates the patience of farmers as the last payments are being mobilised.
GMB also assures of its commitment to continue playing a key role in the agriculture transformation agenda.
This comes as preparations for the 2024 winter cropping season are already underway with government saying 120 000 hectares will be put under wheat with an anticipated yield of 640 000 metric tonnes.
In the 2023 season, Zimbabwe registered a record-breaking 467 905 tonnes of wheat, the highest since wheat production started in the country in 1966.
