Beleaguered Harare giants Dynamos face a crucial clash against four-time champions FC Platinum this afternoon at Mandava Stadium. However, the match is overshadowed by internal turmoil within the Dynamos camp, casting a shadow over their chances of securing a vital victory.

Dynamos' recent 2-1 home win over newcomers Arenel FC was marred by fan protests directed at under-fire coach Genesis Mangombe. Reports suggest these protests may have been orchestrated by a faction within the club's leadership, further deepening the divide within the club. Today's match against FC Platinum could be a turning point for Mangombe's tenure as Dynamos coach.

Despite the internal chaos, Dynamos received a boost with a points award following their abandoned match against Chegutu Pirates. This unexpected development has propelled them to sixth place in the league table after 13 games.

Interestingly, the fixture between Dynamos and FC Platinum has a peculiar recent history. The last five meetings between the two teams have all resulted in goalless draws. The last time Dynamos emerged victorious was in June 2019 with a narrow 1-0 win at Mandava, while FC Platinum haven't beaten their rivals since September 2018.

Despite Dynamos' internal struggles, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapedza remains cautious: "We are going to play Dynamos and Dynamos will be Dynamos... They have a huge fan base all over the country. When they come here they will come to win the game."  He acknowledges Dynamos' recent good football and emphasizes the importance his team has placed on preparing for this specific challenge.

FC Platinum will be without key players Shepherd Mhlanga and goalkeeper Wallace Magalane due to injuries.

Mangombe acknowledges the mental challenge his players face amidst the ongoing turmoil within the club: "It's going to be a tall order... You tell them you have to play football whatever the situation because at times it is going to be difficult when your own supporter is singing against you."

Today's match is more than just a battle for three points.  For Dynamos, it's a chance to overcome internal strife and potentially salvage Mangombe's position. For FC Platinum, it's an opportunity to solidify their position in the title race.
