Chatunga Arrested in Lamborghini Seizure Drama After ZACC Officer Assault
Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of Zimbabwe’s late former President Robert Mugabe, is reportedly among five men arrested following an alleged assault on an investigator from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
The arrests are said to have occurred during an operation to seize two high-value vehicles suspected of having been illegally imported into Zimbabwe from South Africa.
In a statement, ZACC confirmed that it had seized a Mercedes-Benz and a Lamborghini Urus as part of an intensified asset recovery operation targeting property suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
"ZACC has seized two high-value vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a Lamborghini Urus, believed to be in the country illegally," the commission said.
"The seizure forms part of an intensified asset recovery drive aimed at depriving suspects of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of corruption," the statement added.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that tensions escalated during the operation, allegedly resulting in the assault of a ZACC investigator and the subsequent arrest of five men, including Chatunga Mugabe.
However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, the identities of all those arrested and the specific charges they may face have not yet been officially confirmed.
