Five perish in two accidents along Harare-Chinhoyi highway

Five people, including four youths on a joy ride perished in accidents that occurred over the weekend, according to police.

Three of the youths, all from Banket died on the spot while the other passed away upon admission at Chinhoyi University of Technology Hospital.

They are reported to have been coming from a famous entertainment joint in Chinhoyi when the car they were traveling in collided with a haulage truck and caught fire.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove, confirmed the accident, but referred further questions to the National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

In the other accident, a Chinhoyi family was also involved in an accident Sunday when the daughter who was driving a Honda Fit, failed to negotiate a curve just after the Mapinga Great Dyke escarpment.

The accident which claimed the life of the father on the spot, left four other family members critical.

The family was on their way to Harare for a church service at United Family International Church.
