Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of late former president Robert Mugabe, has been arrested in Johannesburg following a shooting incident at a residence in the city’s affluent Hyde Park area.

Police sources say a security guard was shot during an altercation at the property and sustained serious injuries. The victim was rushed to hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.

Mugabe was taken into custody at the scene after South African police responded to reports of gunfire. Law enforcement authorities reportedly deployed additional officers and negotiators amid early uncertainty surrounding the incident.

At this stage, police have not confirmed the specific charges Mugabe may face, and investigations into the circumstances leading to the shooting are ongoing. Authorities have also not disclosed details regarding the motive or events preceding the confrontation.

The arrest adds to a history of previous legal run-ins involving Chatunga Mugabe, including earlier cases linked to violent altercations and assault allegations in Zimbabwe.

Police are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
