Gweru City Council is taking strict measures against residents who owe more than two months' worth of rates, announcing that debt collectors will be involved and legal action may follow if debts are not settled.

The council is urging residents to clear their arrears promptly to avoid additional costs such as legal fees and interest.

Meanwhile, residents' associations advocate for payment plans as a more favorable solution for settling debts.

Mayor Martin Chivhoko said that timely payment is crucial for maintaining city services and development.

The council is currently owed over ZWL$70 billion by residents.
