The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested an Agritex officer for Makonde District, Ennie Murungu, on charges of criminal abuse of office.

Murungu, who supervises Wards 3, 5 and 7, is accused of recommending farming inputs under the Arda Joint Venture Programme contract farming to a non-farmer, Nodwell Manuel.

Manuel allegedly sold the 20 metric tonnes of Compound D fertiliser and herbicides he received on the black market, causing prejudice to Arda.

Ennie Murungu, who is an Agritex supervisor for Wards 3, 5 and 7 in Makonde, is accused of fraudulently recommending the issuance of farming inputs under the Arda Joint Venture Programme contract farming to one Nodwell Manuel who is not a farmer.

“Arda was prejudiced of 20 metric tonnes of Compound D fertiliser and herbicides after Manuel received the farming inputs and sold them at the black market,” Zacc said in a statement.

Murungu appeared in court on February 28, 2024 and was granted US$100 bail with a remand date of March 19, 2024.
