In probably the biggest catch this the year, police in Harare on Monday arrested a 29-year-old man after he was allegedly caught with 21kg of crystal meth and 1.2kg of cocaine at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

This comes as police have arrested over 3 000 people across the country in connection with the illegal possession of drugs since the launch of their blitz codenamed “No to Dangerous Drugs and Illicit Substances: See Something, say Something”.

In a statement, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Davison Gomo was trying to smuggle the drugs from South Africa to the Philippines.

“Detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics acted on received information and arrested Davison Gomo, 27, in connection with unlawful possession of 21kg of crystal meth and 1.2 kgs of cocaine,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

“The drugs were concealed in a consignment of 23 sealed metal pulleys and were intercepted at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare.

“It was destined for Manila, Philippines, from South Africa.”
