A man who was arrested at High Glen Bus Terminus in connection with smuggling a box of toy guns and another with 20 blank pistols has been taken to court.

Douglas Emmanuel Jekanyika, 44, of Belvedere and Godknows Gunda, 31, of Azanza Street Msasa, appeared in court charged with smuggling.

They were remanded in custody.

The State alleges that on March 5, Southerton Police  Station was informed that the accused had smuggled firearms from South Africa into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge Border Post aboard Tems Logistics Bus Services and intended to offload at High Glen Road Port.

They allegedly arrested Jekanyika while collecting the boxes.

The boxes were opened and one box had 10xBlown F92 toy guns.

The other box had 20 pistols. Jekanyika was allegedly interviewed and implicated Gunda as the owner of the firearms.

The accused were asked to produce a declaration paper and failed.
