A man, who allegedly stabbed the complainant with a screwdriver because they wanted to steal a pair of shoes from him, has been arraigned before the courts.

Knowledge Matanda, 26, appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with robbery.

He will appear in court on March 3, for bail application.

The State, through prosecutor Mandirasa Chugumira, alleges that on February 7 at around 2300 hours, Hussen Chisuse, who was coming from Nyamapanda, was dropped off by a taxi at Fourth Street Rank.

Chisuse was carrying a satchel, which contained a jacket, R1 500 and his Malawian passport.

It is alleged that as he was trying to find a safe place where he could spend the night since he wanted to proceed to South Africa the following morning.

Chisuse was approached by Matanda, who was in the company of two other accomplices  who are still at large.

The trio demanded to know where Chisuse was going, before he could answer them, Matanda pulled the complainant’s satchel from his back.

It is alleged that his two accomplices joined him and removed Chisuses pair of shoes.

Chisuse tried to resist and was stabbed with a screwdriver by one of the accused persons.

The State alleges that the three overpowered Chisuse and stole his pair of shoes, the satchel and the wool jat he was wearing.

After that the three fled from the scene, but Chisuse had identified the three and reported them, leading to their arrest.
