Government has commissioned a new asphalt plant in Harare, a development expected to significantly boost road maintenance and rehabilitation capacity in the capital.

According to the Zimbabwe National Road Administration, the facility—officially commissioned by Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona—has a production capacity of 120 tonnes per hour and is designed to enhance the operational efficiency of the Department of Roads.

ZINARA described the development as “a new dawn for Harare roads,” noting that the state-of-the-art plant is set to accelerate maintenance works across the city.

The road authority said the investment will enhance the operational capacity of the Department of Roads, speeding up road maintenance and rehabilitation works throughout the capital.

ZINARA further noted that the commissioning “signals renewed momentum in strengthening Zimbabwe’s road network, improving efficiency, and delivering durable infrastructure that supports economic growth and everyday mobility.”

Earlier in the day, Minister Mhona also officially opened to traffic a section of Harare Drive, which forms part of the Harare–Beitbridge Highway corridor, as Government continues efforts to modernise key transport infrastructure.

The developments come as authorities intensify infrastructure rehabilitation under ongoing roadworks programmes aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic activity.
