The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have named the victims of a haulage truck accident that took place at the 36km peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road on Friday October 4.

Announcing the names on their official Twitter handle, police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Otilia Mwanandimai (35) of Unit H; Philosia (7 months) of Unit H; Tildanence Kanengoni (24) of Unit M; Irene Chirume (63) of Unit H, all in Seke Chitungwiza; Charity Chikuku (39) of Glen View 4, Harare and Ruth Bandare (40) of Glen View 4 in Harare died in the accident.

According to the facts, the driver failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road and ran over some pedestrians before landing on its roof.

The truck driver is said to have been carrying four passengers and was travelling northwards. Two of the four passengers and four pedestrians who were run over died on the spot while five other people, including the driver were injured.

Ass Comm Nyathi urged motorists to be cautious on the roads and to “avoid speeding, especially this rainy season when the roads are slippery”.
