A 26-year-old Rusape man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for stealing household property valued at US$340 from his mother.

Takudzwa Mpindu appeared before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court, where he was convicted of theft.

The court heard that on August 20, 2025, Mpindu used spare keys to enter his mother’s bedroom while she was away in Harare and stole the items.

His mother was alerted by a neighbor’s phone call and immediately reported the matter to the police, leading to Mpindu’s arrest.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment, with two months suspended on condition that he restitutes the stolen property by October 31, 2025.

An additional four-month sentence from a previous conviction, which had been suspended, was also brought into effect — bringing his total sentence to eight months behind bars.
