Rwandese woman arrested in Karoi for entering Zim illegally

A 33-year-old Rwandan woman, Esther Nyirangirimana, has been arraigned in a Zimbabwean court and fined US$50 or sentenced to 30 days in prison for violating the country’s immigration laws.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Nyirangirimana was arrested on June 6, 2024, by immigration officials at a bus terminal in Karoi.

The authorities found that Nyirangirimana was attempting to board a bus bound for Harare without a valid permit or passport.

Although she possessed a valid Rwandan passport bearing her name, it did not have a visitor’s entry permit issued by the Zimbabwean Immigration Department.

She was charged with contravening the Immigration Act.
