A Beitbridge teen has been sentenced to five years in prison on his guilty plea to attempted murder after taking part in a brutal attack on his host after a drinking spree. His co-accused who denied the same charge is still before the courts.

The two, Bright Denhere, 19, and Ariafani Moyo, 20, appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ court

On February 5, 2024, at around 2300 hours, the accused persons were at Kenneth Moyo’s homestead in Beitbridge where they were drinking beer.

The accused persons had a misunderstanding with the complainant, which resulted in them hitting the complainant with logs and fist as well as kicking him.

The complainant sustained severe injuries on the neck. A police report was made.

Denhere pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment while Moyo denied the charges and judgment will be handed down when he reappears in court.
